The Five Key Beliefs and How Value Fits In

In this video, I introduce you to the concept of care-driven work—the kind of work that comes from deep within, from belief and will. This is the foundation of student motivation. I explain how mindsets like growth mindset are really about belief at the core of a person’s being.

The core of this course is the Value Belief, which is central to whether a student cares about the work they’re asked to do. I lay out the Five Key Beliefs framework, with a focus on the second tier—the value belief. The Value belief is all about how a student relates to what they’re learning: Is this subject useful, interesting, or fun? We explore how teachers can shape the classroom environment to nurture and grow this belief. Once this belief is in place, it sparks care-driven work, making learning not just something students do, but something they genuinely want to do.
